The Kansas Traveling Libraries Commission (KTLC) was established in 1899 through the leadership of the Kansas Social Science Federation. The Kansas Library Association (KLA) was founded by Anna LaPorte Diggs, when she invited Kansas citizens together to discuss library matters. On 17 May 1900 this group called for an organizational meeting for a state library association, which was held in December of that same year, thereby creating the KLA.
